GMP Ready to Take Off With Innovative New Design
GMP is all set to create a new multi-purpose studio built out of a Boeing 747 airliner.
The innovative new office will function as a design academy by while being an exclusive bar at night whilst also being available for private hire.
The plane will be fitted with a range of contemporary flooring and lighting once stripped out. The idea came from the ongoing Project 747 where GMP were contracted to create a unique bar in Essex of a similar nature.
Neil Morten, head of GMP design said:
“When we were chatting and showing clients around the jumbo jets in aeroplane graveyards we thought ‘wouldn’t it be great for an office?’
“The deal is done and the land is all we need now, so we’re looking at the moment.
“As long as we can lease the land we can park it up and it should be quite simple and I would like it to be a high-profile place. We thought when it wasn’t being used as an office it could be a great function room by night.
“We are going to put a bar in there and we know lots of top chefs that would want to come and cook there.”
He added: “We have got massive ambition. We’d like to get to 110 people. It is all about growth for us.
“We had a tough old recession but our order book is phenomenal. Suddenly last year it was like someone just turned a tap on. It has been a great success story.”
The 747 office will be located in either Rugely or Lichfield depending on the availability of land.
The project will be a fantastic addition to GMP’s ever growing portfolio of design projects across the globe and it is due for completion before the end of next year.
