Contract Awarded to Renovate Tired Icon
GMP are delighted to announce they have been awarded the £2.5 million contract to transform Cleethorpes Pier.
The plans for the historic 335ft Victorian pier include a 500 seater theatre, ballroom and restaurant as well as a cocktail bar and coffee shop.
The pier was originally built in 1873 at a cost of only £8000 and was damaged by fire in 1903. Since then, the pier has had numerous owners but the original Victorian structure remains intact. Numerous design projects have been commissioned over the years with varying degrees of success but GMP plan to design the pier to stand the test of time and ultimately become a stylish, functional focal point of the town.
GMP’s design plans also include a top quality restaurant ran by top TV chef Nigel Smith and the pier will also be a wedding venue as well as having leisure facilities for tourists and local people.
Neil Morten, head of GMP Design, is very excited by the project, saying:
“This is a prestigious contract to transform a historic pier. The potential is enormous and we hope to turn it into a venue the town can be proud of once again”
“We see this project as more than just the renovation of a decrepit venue, but the regeneration of a tired icon of Victorian seaside life and a vital source of tourism for the local area”
Work has already begun on the pier and GMP are hoping to complete the project before 2016.
